Alternate colour scheme…

I suspect this lady’s pose makes a little more sense now that I’ve added the argyle…

argyle girl

I’ve had an itch for a while to put more patterns like this on characters’ clothing. I did it a bit in the forthcoming graphic novel Emiko Superstar, with a floral print dress. But repeating stuff like that in panel after panel–and trying to make it look good (and consistent) regardless of the pose–can be a pain in the ass. I think I need to do more one-off illustrations or paintings to feed this particular jones.

I’ll add the actual colours later.

Here’s a robot dude I drew in House of Mystery #4. He only shows up in one small panel but I like ‘im so I thought I’d share. I should mention that this image is in no way a good representation of the story. But I don’t care.

no, ace, just you

On his blog, Wil Wheaton was talking about filming the final showdown in Stand By Me and how he’d felt, at the time, that he should be yelling at Kiefer Sutherland’s character, Ace. But director Rob Reiner did a good job of convincing him that it was more powerful for his lines to be spoken with a quiet intensity. So that’s what inspired this sketch.

no, ace, just you

At first I’d planned to properly capture Wil’s likeness but I soon scrapped that idea and took a little more artistic license.

Okay, I decided I don’t like the colours I plopped onto the other version of this drawing. So here’s a much simpler take…

ninja turtle sketch

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle sketch for a friend. If you look closely at his arm, you can see where my scratched finger bled onto the drawing. Oops.

but what does it mean?!

I swung by a Drink & Draw while in Calgary but we got there just before last call and this was the only thing I managed to tarnish some paper with.

but what does it mean?!

And no, I don’t know why I drew a pointy-eared dude with a long cigarette and a sheriffy badge.
